Award winning garden on show at Stepping Hill
Thanks to the generosity of Inverness Medical, an award winning RHS garden has been replanted at Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport. Commissioned by The Greater Manchester Pathology Network and built by renowned landscape designer Clive Scott, the interesting and calming garden has now been installed outside the hospital’s main entrance where it can be appreciated by visitors, patients and staff.
Keen to raise awareness in the general public of the role that Pathology plays in healthcare, the Pathology Network commissioned the show garden in order to informally meet members of the public and explain the broad scope of today’s Pathology service. Filled with plants and flowers that have medicinal value, the garden was awarded a coveted silver medal at this summer’s RHS Tatton show.
Officially opening the garden, the chief executive of Stockport NHS Foundation Trust, Chris Burke commented: “We are thrilled to have the garden at Stepping Hill. It not only looks great, but also provides the opportunity to learn a bit more about the plants behind some of today’s important medicines.”
Consultant Microbiologist Dr Emma Watson, who was involved in creating the garden was equally enthusiastic: “ This project was extremely exciting and I am glad to see the garden in-situ at Stepping Hill where it will be appreciated and cared for.”
